How to help your clients take advantage of the Open Enrollment Period

If your clients are unhappy with their Medicare Advantage plan, Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period provides an opportunity to switch plans.

Every year from January 1 - March 31, those with a Medicare Advantage plan have the opportunity to:

• Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan with or without drug coverage
• Disenroll from a Medicare Advantage Plan and return to Original Medicare. 

 

If your client makes a plan change during this time, their new coverage will begin the 1st of the month following their enrollment in a new plan.

Common reasons for switching plans during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period include:

• Current plan doesn’t offer mail order or other prescription drug discount programs
• Not satisfied with current plan
